Styling Tips to Upgrade your Living Room
Living Rooms are the core of the home, the space for entertaining, gathering, and connecting with the family, guests or simply to sit down and enjoy some R&R. As designers we’re constantly asked by clients to help them create the “Perfect Living Room”. Sometimes the common meaning of this space not always is the one we have in mind or the one that actually fits our everyday needs.
After pinpointing our everyday needs and routines, around that we can style it so your space not only fits you but also looks beautiful.
Think about your Layout
The Right Sofa
If Living Rooms are the core of our homes…Sofas are the core of our Living Rooms. Our old and reliable one may not always get away from accomplishing the style that we need. Remember comfort and style are key to this. If in doubt we have a couple of tips on how to help you choose the right sofa.
Avoid Stiffness
And we cannot stress this enough…THINK ABOUT YOUR NEEDS. Stiff and unused sitting rooms may look great on my mom’s beloved magazines, but is it actually what fits in everyday life? Don’t get me wrong, if you have the space to create also a more formal setting perhaps keep in mind giving it a more used and relaxed look.
Proportions
This applies to rugs, art, and coffee tables. When buying these specific items we tend to buy smaller sizes because we feel bigger ones can eat up the room. There’s nothing more disturbing than a small area rug under a tiny coffee table next to a wall with two itty-bitty art pieces hanged.
At the beginning of last year, someone asked us to help them create a more formal setting in their space. The client had in mind to turn what was a screen-centered family room into a one expressed only to entertain guests. Little did we know how the past year will turn out, this made her see her priorities clear. Even though she would like to entertain more, her needs at work, family, and everyday life made her see that she didn’t have to sacrifice one for the other.
The beautiful thing about your home is the way you portray your personal style and your way of living with others.
